How & When It Started
Mayor Pat Moeller and City Council on July 22, 2020, signed a resolution recognizing and declaring that every June 19th in the city of Hamilton, Ohio will be celebrated as “Juneteenth” in perpetuity. The City of Hamilton now permanently recognizes Juneteenth, as a “City” holiday.
The inaugural Hamilton Juneteenth Celebration was in 2021, held at the BTW Community Center, the following years were held at Marcum Park in Downtown Hamilton.
We've had tremendous support from several local businesses and organizations include the YWCA, 17Strong, First Financial Bank, The Hamilton Police Department, and Donald Jordan Memorial Chapel to name a few.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is the only holiday that commemorates the abolition of slavery, more specifically the emancipation of enslaved Africans throughout the United States of America. We look forward to many more years of the Hamilton Juneteenth Celebrations. Celebrating & Educating is a priority and goal of our Celebration
